Manogue cracks down on appearance code policy during the winter months, enforcing that all jackets and outerwear worn over polos must be Bishop Manogue gear.
As we move into winter and the weather grows colder, students are bundling up with jackets, vests, and sweatshirts to try to stay warm. While the Manogue handbook does permit students to wear these clothes, there is one exception: all outerwear worn over the student’s polo must have the Manogue logo visible on it. If students violate this rule, they will receive a permanent dress code infraction on their record and will be required to serve a detention.
Although some students find this policy to be harsh, excessive, and unnecessary, I believe that keeping up with the appearance code helps to maintain the uniformity of students and contributes to strengthening the school spirit here at Manogue.
If students were allowed to wear non- Manogue clothing that covered their polos, it would essentially defeat the purpose of even requiring a uniform. If students wish to add extra layers during school hours, there are many online websites where they can purchase affordable Manogue sweatshirts, hoodies, and jackets. Some might feel that the appearance code is a limitation of self-expression; however, these websites offer multiple customization features such as allowing you to choose the color and design of the clothing article.
I firmly believe that enforcing this policy creates a more unified student body and contributes to the strong sense of community that Manogue fosters. When us students are collectively decked out in Manogue gear, we are reminded that we are all contributors to shaping a spirited and inclusive school environment.
