When the crowd goes crazy, the bleachers shake and high schoolers start exchanging chants across the basketball court, there’s a good change you will find Romel Collins leading the way. The senior at Bishop Manogue Catholic Highschool is ASB’s Commissioner Of Spirit and he certainly knows how to get his fellow miners pumped. “It’s a lot of fun when it’s a lot of people getting hyped with you.” Collin’s energy and love for BMCHS is infections, but his time is running out in this role. He will be graduating this year, but he hopes the next leader to fill his shoes will help Miners show up and show out, too.
BMCHS elections are coming up! The main role of the ASB Commissioner Of Spirit is to boost school pride and participation at school events. Collins says the bigger the personality – the better; you can’t be shy. “I like the position of Commissioner Of Spirit because I like using my personality to get people hyped.” This position was designed to promote unity and enthusiasm across campus by creating themes for games and spirit weeks. For example, during football and volleyball seasons, Collins helps organized “Construction Night” Where students wore colorful neon vests. “It’s a lot of fun, you go to every game with friends.” Collins has loved minute of this experience. “Live it while you dream it.”
If you would like to run for ASB Commissioner of Spirit for 2025-2026 school year, you have to submit an application to Mr. DeRuyter first. It includes questions about your GPA, your hobbies and leadership experience, why you want the position, and your strategies for getting students involved. You can find the application under your grade group in blackbaud and the deadline to turn it in is 1/24/25.
Only 4-6 people will be selected as candidates for the election and two students will win.
