It’s election season here at Manogue, and here’s everything you need to know before you cast your vote for the 2025 Student Council candidates.
Student Council is an exciting opportunity for students to step forward as leaders and help contribute to creating a positive, united environment within the school. Being a member of the Student Council Class, ASB, is a great way to encourage school spirit, connect with fellow students, and to help organize school functions and events. Application Forms will be accepted until January 24th, and all students who are currently Sophomore-Juniors are encouraged to apply. To access these forms, make sure to check your class page on Blackbaud. The 2025 Elections will be held the week of February 3rd-7th.
This year’s election process is new and improved thanks to the head Student Council teacher, Mr.Deruyter. Of the total number of applicants, 27-28 will be selected to proceed as candidates for whichever position they chose and will be eligible for the ASB Class at large members even if they did not win. Current Freshman and incoming students interested in joining Student Council must enroll in next year’s leadership class, which is a curriculum focused on preparing for ASB. As of the next election, in order to apply for a position in ASB, students must be an upperclassman and have completed at least one year of leadership.
Not sure what to apply for? The ASB Class has a wide variety of positions available for students, such as Class President, Historian, Secretary, and more. Positions such as Class President and Vice President focus on fostering communication and advocating for your class within the community, while the Commissioners of Rallies foster school spirit by executing memorable rallies. Each member of ASB contributes a specific, unique job and all are crucial to the success of the class.
Student Council is essential to a thriving school community because it provides students the ability to have their voices heard and advocated for. A new election season means new student leaders who will help contribute to the success of the ASB class. Mr. D looks forward to next year’s Student Council class, saying, “I am really excited with the direction that we are headed with building a strong ASB program through our new leadership class. Additionally with the reorganization of ASB I am looking forward to the events, rallies, and spirit days that will be produced by our next ASB crew!”
