“Attention everyone, there is a Code Blue, remain in your classrooms until further notice.”
On February 11th, at around 2:00 p.m., our admin announced a code blue over the speaker. There were no further details as to the whereabouts, identity of the fainting individual, and why said individual had fainted. All that we recalled was that students and teachers were instructed to remain in their classrooms until the code blue was lifted.
There was no further notice, however, and when dismissal rolled around, our admin simply told us to leave the school as quickly as possible through the glass doors by the knowledge center, without loitering in the halls. Everyone did as instructed, and soon the only people remaining were admin trying to figure out the situation and students participating in after-school clubs. Because of the quick evacuation, it wasn’t long until people started to notice this medical van situated at the front of the school. Given that previous code blues didn’t require this level of attention, the medical van soon sparked many rumors.
There was some confusion regarding the presence of the van, as well as some perturbation. As Jaysen Vokes, sophomore, reported: “Yeah, there was a lot of confusion, some people going ‘did someone die?’ It wasn’t like crazy mad though, just some questions hanging around.”
The day after I asked a few students about the number of rumors they heard. Sure enough, there were many different ideas of what happened. As Vokes previously mentioned, there was some speculation of a suicide attempt, but it was later revealed that someone simply suffered heart palpitations – perhaps a seizure. The name of this unfortunate person remains unknown.
Until then, we will wait for further notice by our school admin.
