On the sidelines of Manogue’s fields and courts, you will often see Mrs. Wallin, steady and focused, ready to support our athletes. She’s not just there to tape an ankle, or ice a knee, she’s there to empower and guide. She gives her all, whether it’s through parenting, teaching, or athletic training on our sidelines. This is her story and how passion, persistence, and parenting shape her life.
Mrs. Wallin was raised in the East Bay town of Brentwood, California, and grew up surrounded by activity. “I played soccer when I was young, like so many do,” she remembers, “but I really got into dance. That led into cheerleading, and I did that in high school and college.” Her active childhood helped shape who she is today, building a foundation for everything that she does.
Her early love for sports led to a lifelong passion. But it was a high school class, sports medicine, that would inspire her future. Her decision to pursue sports medicine was specifically due to a high school teacher of Mrs. Wallins. “She’s got the dream job,” she said. “She teaches sports medicine and she’s out there with all the sports taking care of the athletes. The rest is history!”
That passion led her to Sacramento State for college, where she pursued a degree in athletic training and followed it up with a master’s in exercise physiology. When asked if her career interests had changed throughout her education, she said without hesitation, “It was always kinesiology for me. Always. That was it.”
Throughout college, Mrs. Wallin was involved in more than just the books. She was a cheerleader on the sideline and a CrossFit instructor. After college, she gave personal training a try. “It wasn’t really for me,” she admitted. “But I found solid athletic training positions after I moved to Reno.” She found her true calling in athletic training, and the rest is history.
Now at Manogue, she’s more than the kinesiology teacher or athletic trainer, she is someone who students can trust and count on in more ways than one. Her calm presence and encouraging attitude make a difference for athletes and her students. She is the person that everyone turns to when they need advice or support, both in and outside the classroom.
But off the sidelines and out of the classroom, she has another full-time job: mom of two. “I’ve got two boys. Cash is five, and Cooper is three,” she says. “They are non-stop 24-7 energy. One minute they’re throwing punches, and the next they’re hugging it out and back to building Legos.“ The bond between her and her boys is special, as there is never a dull moment.
Weekends at her house are never quiet. They are always packed with fun, laughter, energy, and excitement. “We’re getting into all the sports,” she says, talking about her boys. “They’ve taken up hockey, T-ball, we go to the discovery museum, we play outside with their remote-controlled cars and airplanes, and we love to go on hikes,” she says. Her boys and her also love to go to thrift stores. “We love hunting for little treasures!” It is clear that Mrs. Wallin has always been very family oriented.
When asked for one fitness trend she loves or can’t stand, she said, “I love that more people are doing yoga and becoming mindful of their bodies and stress. It’s great for mental health and mobility, especially since we all sit too much.”
To Mrs. Wallin, helping others is so important, whether it’s athletes recovering from injury or her own kids learning a new sport. This is what drew her to the field in the first place. She wants to help people feel better, move better, and live better. Her job isn’t just about treating injuries; it is about helping people live happier, healthier lives.
If given the chance to have dinner with anyone? “Maybe George Kittle?” she says with a smile. “He’s one of the tight ends for the 49ers. I love his personality- he’s quirky and fun. He just seems like an awesome dinner date. I’m sure my husband would love to meet him too!”
With her love for fitness, her unwavering support for students and athletes, and her devotion to family, Mrs. Wallin shows what it means to show up, for others and for yourself. And whether she’s tending to a sprained ankle or chasing her boys through the park, one thing is clear, she’s creating a life that is full of motion, purpose, and love. Her dedication to her family and work inspires everyone she meets, making her a role model in every sense.
