The Miners convincingly took the win 3 sets to none last Thursday at Douglas for their first league game.
The Miners took the momentum immediately, with a strong first set win 25-22.
The second set was solidified immediately, with a big 25-14 win to put the Miners up 2 with only one more to win.
The last set was taken with a 25-22 win to send the Tigers home with a dominating start to the league play.
The offense was on the court for the Miners, with 11 kills from Audrey Sutherland and 9 kills from Kaetlie Harris, and a impressive 27 assists from Sofia Sterrett. The defense was as powerful, with 8 big digs from Sofia Jaferian and 6 digs respectively from Kaetlie Harris, Sofia Sterrett, and Eva Knudson.
“We handled the balls they threw back at us today really well.” Ms. Upton said after the game. “Douglas does a really good job of keeping it in play, and we handled it well.”
The game also had some lessons to learn to prepare for the next one.
“We need to continue working on our blocking and getting our hands over faster.” Ms. Upton said
Manogue only managed to put up one block for the night.
With the big win, the team’s moral is at a high.
“We did a really great job at everything.” Sofia Sterrett said. “My teammates were there for me and helping me at every point and kept me going.”
The Miners head over to the Galena Grizzlies on the road this Thursday. The Miners could take a 2-0 start to league play. The game starts at 6:00pm.
