Bishop Manogue football took on Pittsburg High School from California at home on Saturday at 4 PM. They gave a valiant effort but came up just short, 23-31. “A lot of people focus on the loss, but there are so many positives that we can take away from the game.” Miner’s head coach Ernie Howren states. “I’m proud of our guys, they work so hard.”
Students and parents were treated to a great game, hopes high as Manogue struck gold for a touchdown first. Down 14-13 at halftime, the Miners felt very confident that they will overcome the Pirates. But coming out of the second half, the pirates gained momentum with 17 unanswered points over the miners. The Miners just couldn’t overcome that deficit in a 31-23 loss, their third straight. All losses have been to teams inside the top 25 in California and top 200 in the nation. “We should’ve won that game…” Christian “Aussie” Field, Cornerback for the miners said, “…we will take the positives and use them against the Huskies next week.”
They will play Reno High on Friday, September 12th at 7pm at home. It is Family Night with a Salute to Veterans occurring during halftime. This will be Manogue’s last non-league game of the year.
