Manogue faced a challenge this Friday at home, playing a competitive Douglas Tigers team. The Miners beat them in a close one, with a final score of 48-46
Within the first minutes of the game, it was set to be high scoring. Douglas came out hot with a big 85-yard touchdown from running back Zachary Jackson. Manogue responded fast, scoring four touchdowns including a 33 yard pass from quarterback Brandon Mann, making a 31-19 lead going into half.
Douglas started strong again in the second half, starting off with another 81-yard run from Zachary Jackson to put the Tigers back in the game. The game went back and forth from here. Even with 60 yard and 81 yard touchdown passes from the Douglas quarterback Keston Sadabseng, the Tigers couldn’t catch up to the Miners offense. The game ended with a 48-46 final score.
With 277 passing yards and 3 passing touchdowns, Brandon Mann seemed unstoppable on the offensive side of the ball. He spread the ball well with big passes to receivers like Demari Stacker, who had 104 yards with 1 touchdown, and Nathan Simmons, who had 130 yards with 2 touchdowns. The running game was solid, with running back Amir McGruder’s impressive 124 yards with three touchdowns in 23 carries.
The defensive side of the ball was lacking. The defense seemed unable to make big plays when needed, making the Tigers got an impressive 46 points. However, there are some positives coming from this game. The pass rush got 2 sacks and 9 tackles for loss, which is more than they have put up in half of their games this season.
The Miners got a bye this week, and got an important game against a stellar Reed team next. The Raiders have had an unstoppable rushing offense, and it will be interesting to see what changes the Miners make to stop them.
