As student council, we started talking about Winterfest early this year. We were all excited about the possibility of having a new dance. Ever since I have been at Bishop Manogue, we have never had a Winterfest Dance, so the idea of finally putting one together made student council very excited. Then they told us when the dance had to be, and that upset a lot of us.
Student council wanted to make this something we have never done before, something a little different. Sadly, this year’s event is not going to look exactly like what we originally wanted it to be.
When we began planning, we brainstormed a lot of ideas. However, some decisions like the date were already set earlier in the year. After coming up with multiple themes and fun ideas, we found out that Winterfest falls during the same week as JA. That means the dance has to happen on that Friday, right after a home basketball game. Even though this creates some problems, I still think it has the potential to be a really fun night. We just have to work around the bumps in the road.
Overall, in my opinion, it felt like everything started going wrong at the beginning of the planning process. Many of our best ideas became impossible once we learned when the dance had to be held. I’m still very grateful that we are able to have a Winterfest dance at all this year. The disappointment came from knowing how great some of our original ideas were but in the end, I’m still excited for what we are gonna do for our Winterfest dance.
