A humongous snowstorm catches the Reno-Tahoe area off guard, forcing schools to shut down. In the past two days, a snowstorm blanketed the Reno-Tahoe area. The storm started on Monday. However, in various parts of the area, it was simply raining due to the above-freezing temperatures. Then, the real storm hit. On Monday night, the temperatures plummeted, turning the sleet to snow. From Monday night to Tuesday morning, there was over two feet of snow in some areas. As a result, schools in the Reno-Tahoe area were forced to close for the day. Most schools opted for a snow day, but Manogue had its students attend virtually on Monday. After the virtual day on Monday, students were anxious about whether the next day would be virtual or a delayed in-person school day. Throughout Tuesday, the storm raged on when Bishop Manogue sent out a text at 7:24 pm. This text revealed that Manogue was going to have another virtual school day. With two virtual days in a row, students and teachers alike were thrown into disarray by the consecutive 1-8 period days. And for some students, they had an increased amount of homework because of it.
As of February 18th, the decision regarding whether or not school will be in session lingers. Instead of making a decision the day before, Manogue told its students the decision would be made at 5:30 AM. This begs the question: Will Manogue have its students return for a delayed start, or will students have to deal with a third consecutive virtual day?
