The Regional Championships for Skiing better be ready for Manogue skiers to tear up the hill in Colorado! This Sunday, the Western US High School Championships will be held at Loveland Ski Area, CO from the 15th to the 18th of March. Manogue skiers Emilia Hsu, Christian Field, and Elisabeth Higgenbotham have skied exceptionally through the ski season, and their performance has earned them a spot at the Regional Championships. Manogue will be skiing alongside the other top 12 boys and top 12 girl skiers from participating schools in the Reno/Sparks area. March 16th will be the Women’s Giant Slalom, March 17th will be the Men’s GS, and March 18th will have slalom for both genders. We will be competing against California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Nevada’s second league, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. The best high school skiers on the west coast will be participating here, and a win at regionals can potentially put you on the radar of Olympic recruiters. Snow conditions seem to currently be less than ideal for our skiers, and there is hope of a small storm in Colorado shortly before regionals, potentially giving our skiers pristine conditions to cut up that hill! This year, the snow conditions and weather for skiing in the west coast have considerably been the worst I have ever experienced, and it would be a safe bet that adjustments based on hill conditions will be made. Manogue coach Ryan Gini predicted that, “there is a serious chance the race venue will be reset multiple times during the competition.” However, everyone is skiing in the same conditions, giving us an even playing field. Looking ahead to this weekend, our Manogue skiers are enthralled for this chance at greatness, and we will all be rooting for you!
