Bishop Manogue’s Football team were eager for their first preseason match against Vegas High School. However, their hopes were quickly put down by unrelenting weather and lightning in Vegas. Scheduled for 8/19/23, the game was ultimately canceled, with no possibility of rescheduling. Enduring an exhausting 8-hour bus ride, the team was tightly packed to reach Vegas. Seeking a stay at a hotel, they transformed a convection center room into a temporary film room for preparation, discussing strategies and analyzing game footage from previous games.
As they traveled the roads to the game, they encountered flooded streets and lightning-filled skies, setting an eerie tone for the day. The team huddled in the locker room for two hours, waiting for the weather to clear. To their dismay, the announcement came that their game was called off. Emotions ran high as they reluctantly boarded the bus, returning home with a mix of frustration and disappointment.
Amidst the disappointment, Coach Howren provided a moment of solace in the locker room, commending the team for their resilience in the face of adversity. “I am proud of how you have handled this adversity” . His words served as a testament to their character, offering a silver lining in the midst of their thwarted game day.
“There is still a lot of Football left”, stated an antonymous player on the team.
