Reno, NV — In a somber turn of events at the Reno Air Races, two skilled pilots lost their lives on Sunday afternoon when their T-6 Class planes collided during landing. The devastating incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. as the T-6 Gold race came to a close. The Reno Air Racing Association identified the fallen pilots as Chris Rushing and Nick Macy, both hailing from California.
The community around the Reno Air Races was left shocked by the incident. Fred Telling, Chairman of the Reno Air Racing Association and President of the T-6 Class, was especially devastated. “These two pilots weren’t just an integral part of the National Championship Air Race family, they were a part of my family. My heart goes out to their own families and to all of the spectators and fans who have so enthusiastically supported us this week.”
Fortunately, there were no other reported injuries among spectators or other participants. The cause of the collision is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board, the FAA and all local authorities to determine the cause of the accident.
