The Bishop Manogue Girls Varsity Volleyball team competed hard against the Reno High Huskies Thursday, September 21, 2023, in a tight 3 set match, ultimately ending with the Reno Huskies on top.
This year’s volleyball season is in full swing, and the girls faced one of their toughest matches yet this past week. Reno High School has recently been Manogue’s big competition in Volleyball, as the past few years have been these two schools battling it out for the Northern Regional title. Fueled by both the high energy from the student section and their own fire within, these girls came out strong for warm-ups in the Huskie’s gym, ready for the big game ahead.
Kicking off the game with serve, the two teams battled back and forth throughout the whole set. The Miner’s showed their grit and hustled to the best of their ability, but ultimately the Huskies pulled out the first set winning 27-25. This did not diminish the Miner’s pride though, and in the second set these girls came back swinging. Keeping a tight game until the very last points, Reno eventually finished the second set on top with a score of 25-23. With one more opportunity to stay in the game, the Miner’s stayed strong and continued to battle for the win. In the end, the Reno Huskies won the third set as well with a close three point difference.
Even with the loss, these girls are still full of hope for the future of the team. “I know tonight didn’t go our way but I’m really proud of the way we fought guys! The improvement is huge and we are only going to keep getting better. I am so excited for the rest of the season!” says Senior team captain Sydney Flint to her teammates after the game.
The Bishop Manogue Varsity Volleyball team is only half way through the season, and it’s only going up from here for these passionate girls. Their next match will be Tuesday, 9/19, at home against Carson, and they are ready to fight so come cheer them on!
