Saint Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Church had another successful festival this year celebrating Greek culture. September 8th and 9th brought Greek food, dancing, music, a raffle, and tours of the Greek Orthodox Church. Around two thousand people attended the annual festival this year and while many kids had the time of their lives getting faces painted, playing games, and eating delicious Greek desserts like baklava. An attendee of the event, Zoe Dixon, shares her opinion: “This year was so fun and amazing. I was sad when they ran out of my favorite food there, but I was happy again when I started dancing with these old ladies who were much more coordinated than I was.” While food ran out pretty quick, as this year was one of the busiest yet, the lively dancing and socializing kept people coming through the doors of the church. Right after walking through the doors, there was a line of people anticipating getting their homemade Greek foods. The dancing at the front of the room was instant entertainment to those who chose to sit indoors. The room next over sold desserts, coffee, and greek merch. The church had a sense of humor, shown through the quotes on shirts, which had sayings on them like “Straight Outta Reno Greek Festival”. They also had beautiful jewelry stands outside. The outdoor part of the festival is where the kids hung out, families sat down, and food trucks and stands held more Greek food. In all, the Reno Greek Festival is a hidden treasure of our community.
