The Bishop Manogue Catholic High School Cross Country team crushed the competition in the 14th Annual Fernley Road Hill Invitational Race at Fernley high school on September 14, 2023. They ran against Northern Nevada 3A schools including Hug, Fernley, Sierra Lutheran, Churchill County, Wells, Dayton, Virginia City, Jackpot, Oasis Academy College Preparatory, and many more.
The BMCHS Girls Junior Varsity team placed second overall out of nine teams. Summer Roleson led the team in seventh place followed by Avery Jakubos, Addison Cale, Aibhílín Pezanoski, Stella Beyon, Ivy Huff, and Alejandra Herrera. The BMCHS Boys Junior Varsity Team placed first out of eleven teams. Luke Swanson led the team in second place followed by Cameron Tatara, Jack O’Donnell, Jack Gronek, Evan Spielman, Quincy McBride, Kyle Perlich, and Elijah Burkett.
The course was 5 kilometers long with two gigantic hills. The terrain was mainly dirt with sections of asphalt. One of Bishop Manogue’s competitors commented, “Those hills were a real struggle, but I think that I got my time back on the down hills.” Others thought differently about the hills: “I actually liked the hills much better than the down hills. I was scared that on the down hill I was gonna trip and start tumbling!”
All in all, the Bishop Manogue Cross Country team ran a great race at the 14th Annual Fernley Road Hill Invitational Race and are looking forward to demolishing the competition in future meets.
