Both the Bishop Manogue girls and boys tennis teams competed in their team regional finals last Friday, October 13 to go to the State tournament in Las Vegas next week. Unfortunately, after two well-fought matches, both teams lost 10 to 8 but will still advance to State. The boys team was defeated by the Galena Grizzlies and the girls were tragically taken down by the Reno Huskies.
“[They] fought hard and I couldn’t be prouder,” says girls team head coach, Jason Yelley. Coach Yelley also expressed he is hopeful the girls team will get another chance to destroy the Huskies at State.
However, regionals is not over for our Miner tennis teams just yet. All of the Bishop Manogue starting players will be competing for themselves and for their school in the individual regional competition this week at Bishop Manogue. The tournament started yesterday for both girls and boys singles and doubles players and will continue through the rest of this week, culminating in the finals this Friday.
The State tournament will begin in Las Vegas for both teams next week starting on Tuesday, October 24. Be sure to wish the tennis players good luck before they leave!
