We are almost at that time of year folks. That night of trick or treating, haunted houses, and crazy parties known as Halloween. If you are someone who’d rather not be scared this year, and would want some friendly, casual, PG comedy (because the Scary Movie series isn’t the best thing to watch in front of your parents), may I suggest the 2020 Netflix original, Hubie Halloween.
Directed by Steven Brill (also worked on Little Nicky, Mr. Deeds, ect.), this movie follows Hubie Dubois (Adam Sandler), a man who devotes his life to the town of Salem and its Halloween traditions. But his commitment is seen as excessive by the residents of Salem and had been constantly ridiculed for it since high school. Every Halloween, he sets out to ensure that the people of Salem, Massachusetts have a safe and fun night. However, this Halloween is different, as he faces new threats to his favorite holiday. With the residents of Salem and his mom (who he lives with), he sets out to investigate these threats to bring peace and safety to Halloween.
Now, according to reviews, this movie is not viewed in a great light. And I’d say that they are right. It isn’t like this is what would be considered “art” by many movie critics. This movie has a rating of 5.2/10 on IMDb and a 51% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, Adam Sandler, who was a producer for this movie, essentially said that he wanted to make this for his kids for Halloween, so he made it intentionally silly rather than outright hilarious like most of his other movies.
If you are looking for a movie that would scare you this Halloween, this movie is probably not for you. However, if you are looking for a casual movie to laugh at because of the jokes or because of how bad it is, then watch Hubie Halloween on Netflix. Happy watching and Happy Halloween!
