Already on his third album, Travis Scott releases Utopia a blend of rap and pop that is turning heads. With the controversy over Travis’s Astroworld Festival for which he has faced a lot of backlash in recent years, this new exemplary album might be a turning point. Many are saying that it is by far his best album, and featured artists such as SZA, The Weekend, Drake, and Playboy Carti truly complete the tracks.
This new album focuses more on Travis’s personal growth as opposed to the “empty rap” style that is present in many of his other albums and songs. Many feared that with this new album, it would simply lose the “Travis Scott feel,” but this new style still brings forward much of his old sound while still showing maturity and growth.
In a line from TELEKINESIS, a track featuring SZA we see Travis’s old voice shining through when he raps “Countin’ so much money till my skin peel.” This new growth, coupled with his more mellow style, and new featured artists has created a new name for Travis. The album had 128 million streams within the first 24 hours of being released and has been the first rap/hip hop album to hit number one on the charts for 4 weeks in a row in 5 years. The most streamed tracks include K-POP featuring The Weekend and Bad Bunny which had a whopping 123 million streams within the first month, and MELTDOWN featuring Drake which has had 101 million streams. The shocking success despite the controversy sets Travis’s new album, and looking at the numbers it is untenable that this album has been a show stopper. Travis continues his reign with his current concert tour where he is performing top tracks from the albums to millions of eager fans.
