On November 28, 2005, Ellen Davis of the National Retail Federation coined the term “Cyber Monday” as a day where shoppers could get some last second deals via online shopping before Christmas. On November 30, 2020, the all time record for the largest single day of online shopping was broken, with 10.7 billion dollars spent on one day. During the COVID pandemic, people were forced to make online purchases rather than go to a store. And since then, people are used to ordering things online rather than making the trip, which honestly, is much more convenient.
Not to mention how uncomfortable Black Friday is. Back when online shopping wasn’t used much and Black Friday was at its prime, it was an all out war for saving. Several reports of injuries and even death on Black Friday gives all the more reason to stay at home. If you want to go out on Black Friday for human interaction, it’s best that you don’t bother, since you won’t get much sympathy from anyone. Like I said: All. Out. War.
Look people, it’s 2023 (nearing 2024). The days of going to Toys-R-Us to ask for what we want for Christmas are over. As sad as it is, the future is now, and all we can do is just go along with it.
