If you have ever tried to come up with gift ideas to show someone just how much they mean to you, you will know it is most difficult when the person refuses to tell you or is unsure about what they want. Gift giving may not be my love language, but each year, I try my best to find a gift that they will really like. However, that perfect, meaningful gift may be more of a one in a million chance if you don’t even know where to start.
I have compiled a list of things that work as either a generic gift or a base to a larger gift for any holiday occasion. Whether you want something that pops for a white elephant, or need something to make a small gift bigger, I got you covered.
Let’s start simple. The best, easy gifts are blankets, candy, ornaments, and cool stuffed animals. These are harmless, charming, and very easy to find. If you are worried that a stuffed animal is too juvenile or sappy, don’t be. Squismallows are insanely popular with people of all ages and genders.
If you want to get more complicated, socks tend to be 50/50, either the best gift, or the worst gift but I think that depends on the person. Candles, soap, and lotion can also be wonderful, just be aware of allergies and scent preferences. If the person you are gifting to is artistic, drawing notebooks and markers make fun and useful gifts. If they enjoy cooking, an apron. If they are sporty, nice athletic clothing or a good water bottle is the way to go.
Don’t let gift giving be any more stressful than it needs to be, focus on the spirit of the season (and on your finals). Have a happy holiday, Miners!!
