This year, Bishop Manogue’s performing arts department will be putting on Spamalot. This musical is being led by Mrs Hilliard and Mr Rossolo and aims to be produced later on this school semester. Rehearsals began last semester and are now every school day, with participants practicing their lines and the music, as well as choreography.
Last year, the performing arts department performed The Addams Family which was the first musical since the COVID-19 pandemic took place. This year, the cast is much larger with around 30 people in total. Spamalot is a comedy musica, with very little to no serious moments. The musical itself is based off of the 1975 movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail where King Arthur collects the offbeat Knights of the Round Table.
The cast of the musical range from freshmen to seniors at Manogue, many of them have musical and chorographical experience. A cast member of the musical quoted “The musical is going generally well- we have had some setbacks with snow days but with the enthusiasm of the cast this year I think it will turn out really well!” The musical contains songs from other Monty Python movies like Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life which is another comedy that covers the stages of life in a satirical way.
Overall, I think that this musical is going to be an absolute blast to watch and perform in. Many people loved the Addams Family, and this year’s musical should be just as fun if not even better.
