Included in the article I wrote just over a month ago, was a Google Form for Manogue Seniors to share the facts and their opinions on the college application process. Over the past four weeks, I received responses from 88 people, which is just over half of our class of 166 students.
First, a simple yes or no question that I know many people are curious about, “have you committed to a college yet?” We have all enjoyed watching the new names appear on Mr. Werner’s whiteboard, but that doesn’t reflect the student body as a whole as 43.2% of the respondents have already committed to a college.
Interestingly, 80.7% of students applied early decision or early action, which makes sense, as doing this can increase your chances of acceptance. 70.5% have chosen a major to study in college with “health, medecine, and nursing” as the largest choice for Manogue seniors (31.7%).
The final two questions in the survey were open ended and asked students about the hardest and easiest parts of the application process. There was no overarching trend in the easiest parts, but a common answer was the personal and demographic questions. In terms of the most difficult aspect, an overwhelming majority of the responses said the essays.
For the Manogue Juniors who will be following this process next year, the essays are difficult and time management is super important, but these are all skills that you have built up in your time here at Manogue. Remember, it is ok to not have a school commitment, you do this on your own time!
