Boys’ and girls’ lacrosse seasons kicked off this past February, and all the teams and coaches have been preparing for the games to come.
The boys’ lacrosse team run by head coach Eric Peacock, started their practices the first week of February, and the girls lacrosse team run by head coach Meghann Harjer started their practices the very next week. Both teams showed off tons of potential as they moved through the first rounds of games. With experienced and new players alike both teams are getting into the swing of lacrosse.
Seniors on the girls team include Ella Barainca, Ella Morrow, Wendy Cook, Alex Jaffe, Delaney Desmond and Lily Haack. For the boys, Charlie Crawford, Ryan Clark, Will Ferrell, Ian Gratrix, and Couper Ross. Although the seniors are so excited for the season, many are sad it will be their last. Senior Ella Morrow even says this “I’m so excited to play with all my friends, and I’m so excited to see what this season has in store for us. I hope to make the best of it and make my last the best. I have been playing lacrosse all my life, and I’m so blessed to spend my last season with all these great girls.”
Both teams also played their first games these past few weeks, the boys varsity team played on the first of March, 3/1 against Galena High School where they lost 10-6, and the girls varsity team played later the next week, on March 7th, 3/7 against Damonte Ranch High School where they won 18-2, congrats Miners!!!
Everyone is excited to see where the season will go, especially the coaches, boys JV coach Craig DeRuyter even says this “I’m super optimistic about the team this season and we have a good bunch I hope we can make it to state this year!!”.
Both teams will have 1-2 games per week for the rest of the season, ending in mid May. This coming week 3/11-15. The boys will be playing Reno High School on 3/14, and the girls will be playing Spanish Springs High School on 3/13. New this season, both boys and girls teams also plan on traveling to Boise, Idaho mid-April to play other catholic schools in the area to build sportsmanship and test their skills against some new teams!
We are so excited to see the things these great teams will accomplish, and make sure you come out and show your support for Miner lacrosse!!
