Bishop Manogue’s Homecoming dance last Saturday was marked by several unexpected pauses in the music, leading students to speculate about the sudden silence. Despite these interruptions, the overall experience was more enjoyable than in previous years, leaving our Miners with lots of fun memories.
The night kicked off as planned at 7 p.m., with students arriving in formal attire, some with friends and some going solo. They were greeted by energetic music and a display of colorful lights. This year’s setup featured laser beam patterns projected above the dance floor and bright flashing lights near the stage, adding to the usual Homecoming atmosphere.
Just as the crowd got into it, the music suddenly stopped, and Mrs. Thoreson spoke over a microphone instructing students to move back from the stage so that those who were pushed up against it wouldn’t get hurt. After a brief pause, the music resumed, and the students continued dancing.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t the only interruption. The music stopped two more times without warning, though without Mrs. Thoreson’s interjection. As the music stopped the first time, students looked around, unsure of what was happening.
“Move back!” someone in the crowd shouted. Despite students stepping away from the stage, the music hadn’t turned on, lasting for about 5 more minutes. Some sat out on the sidelines while waiting for the music to restart. Once it did, however, students rushed back to the dance floor.
As the second pause hit, some speculated technical issues with the speakers were the reason for the interruptions, while others believed it was being too close to the stage.
Despite these issues, this year’s Homecoming was met with lots of fun. Fewer students lingered near the exit, and most stuck around until the very end, making this dance particularly memorable.
