DJ Jon made his debut at Manogue this past Saturday at the Homecoming dance after being selected by Manogue’s student council.
Manogue student council settled on a new DJ Jon for this year’s “Jammin’ Back Home” homecoming dance. DJ Jon, the founder of DJ’s in Reno, mixes beats at many big parties and events around Reno, including the Burning Man Festival.
At homecoming on Saturday, DJ Jon used the turntables to mix house music with popular dance music, in correspondence with the house music dance theme that followed the other music themed days from homecoming week. There were a few technical difficulties at the dance in which a cord was tripped and the music was paused for a period of time, but the majority of the dance went smoothly and DJ Jon’s lighting and equipment helped to transform the gym into a real party.
Overall, there are mixed reviews about DJ Jon. Although he may have just been following student council’s directions and the requests posted on the Manogue Instagram, there was some upset over his song and genre choices. Manogue senior Giorgia DeCota said, “I wish he had played less house music and more typical high school dance songs, ones that we could sing along to.”
Student council will be regrouping this week to determine if DJ Jon will be making a reappearance at future Manogue dances.
