Bishop Manogue volleyball defeated Reno High, on the road, in the 2024 Northern Nevada Regional Championship on Saturday, November 2.
This was the third time the two teams faced off this season. The first game Manogue won in an action-packed game, coming back from a 2-1 deficit. The Huskies won the second game 3-1.
The Miners were the second seed, while the Huskies were the first. Despite the Huskies having the home-court advantage the Miners, stood tall at the assignment at hand.
The Miners and Huskies alternated wins, whith Manogue won sets one and three, and Reno won two and four. The three first sets were decided by three points or fewer. The Huskies took set four, 25-18, tying up the overall score 2-2. Although the Huskies had the momentum heading into set five, the Miners overcame the adversity and won the set, 18-16.
Kyley Quigley, a senior captain, said, “This was a special moment for us seniors because this is the first time since freshman year that we are regional champs!”
The Miners’ next game is in the Nevada State Tournament against Coronado (Las Vegas) at Spanish Springs on Friday, November 8. The winner will advance to the State Championship on Saturday.
