It’s time! Christmas time has already begun. Mariah Carrie has already defrosted, and her iconic Christmas classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You’ has returned to the charts. The holiday decorations and seasonal displays have been up since November 1st. Most argue that it’s too soon to get in the Christmas spirit and that it should begin after Thanksgiving. However, beginning to enjoy the Christmas season early allows time to enjoyment of both holidays.
Celebrating Christmas early means we get to enjoy the holiday season for more than four short weeks in December. When the Christmas season is celebrated for only a month, stress becomes high as we feel rushed to decorate, Christmas shop, and enjoy the holiday. By having the Christmas season be two months, we have the time to enjoy and appreciate all the moments of decorating the trees, watching Christmas movies, and enjoying time with family and friends. It allows us to cherish all of the moments of the holiday. Additionally, Thanksgiving and Christmas have the same core values of family and generosity. Therefore, starting to celebrate Christmas early, enhances Thanksgiving as it boosts the sense of community and joy.
Celebrating Christmas early isn’t simply a personal preference, it’s reflected in businesses all over the world. Many begin celebrating the holiday season early such as Starbucks. As of November 7th, they have released their holiday menu which includes new drinks such as the Sugar Cookie Latte and Peppermint Hot Chocolate. Similarly, Dutch Bros has released their holiday drinks such as the Hazelnut Truffle Mocha and Candy Cane Mocha. The early release of holiday menus demonstrates that these incorporations support the idea of celebrating Christmas earlier as it creates excitement and allows for enjoyment of the season.
So then, why limit the joyful spirit of family and generosity to just Christmas? Let’s embrace the holiday spirit and celebrate the season early, enjoy every moment with family and friends, and celebrate the special gift of family and generosity.
