The boys and girls Bishop Manogue Cross Country team had multiple top finishes this past Saturday at the Josh Ruff Invitational.

The cross-country team drove down to Johnson-Springview Park, California to compete in multiple races, including the Varsity 5k, the Freshman/Sophomore 3,400m, and the Junior Varsity 3,400m.

On the boy’s side, Grant Carmen placed second in the Varsity 5k with a time of 15 minutes and 57 seconds, which was just short of the school record by .1 seconds. His fellow teammates Erik Swason, Xavier Roodhouse, Ben Johnson, and Matthew Johnson all finished in the top 20 places. The boy’s team had a very successful day as the team finished second to Reno with a score of 57.

On the girl’s side, there was a Manogue sweep for the top three places in the Freshman/Sophomore 3,400m race. Emmery Scolari finished first with a time of 13 minutes and 11 seconds, followed by her teammates Evelyn Roodhouse and Emily Azzi. Along with a sixth-place finish by Sophomore Riley Tolotii, our girls finished first as a team with a score of 21.

The team also had top finishes in the JV 3,400m race with Sophomore Haley Mazzone winning the race with a time of 16 minutes and 13 seconds. Fellow teammate Eddy-Marie Hicks finished fourth in the face with a time of 17 minutes and 29 seconds. The girls JV team also finished first with a team score of 52.

As the meet finished up, new head coach Laura Zander added that “This course is a very fast course” and that she was proud of how well the team competed. As the Miners leave the Josh Ruff Invitational, they look ahead to the following Saturday where they will be racing at the Truckee Invitational. They hope to continue their winning streak and hopefully break the boys 5k school record.
