The Bishop Manogue girls varsity tennis team lost a challenging match against Spanish Springs on Tuesday, which also served as the team’s Senior Night. Although the Miners ultimately fell to the Cougars, the evening was filled with love, support, and memorable moments for families and players.

Senior night brought a cheerful atmosphere to the match, filling the courts with family, friends, and teammates. The courts were beautifully decorated with gifts, balloons, and filled with many friendly faces to support our girls. The players took photos with their friends and family, making the night special regardless of the final outcome.

Going into the match, Bishop Manogue knew they would be facing one of the toughest teams in the league this season due to no team beating them so far. Many understood the challenges that laid ahead, and the Miners had struggled against Spanish Spring in recent years. Spanish Spring’s number one singles player entered the match with an impressive record, having defeated every opponent played 6-0. Despite the difficult competition, Bishop Manogue continued to battle throughout the afternoon. One of the highlights was when junior Aliya High was about to play the number one player. She said, “I don’t care if I lose, I am just aiming to win one set.” She stuck to her word, and although it was only a single set, it was a significant accomplishment because no other opponent had managed to win a game against her in the season.

Even though the loss was discouraging, the evening reminded the tennis players that tennis is more about wins and loses. The night celebrated our Seniors, who will be dearly missed. The Miners will now turn their attention to their upcoming match against Galena, this Thursday.
