The Manogue JV girls soccer team battled Galena to a 2-2 tie Tuesday, September 22nd.

Coming off a 2-0 victory over Reed the previous Thursday, the Manogue JV girls soccer team entered its rivalry matchup against Galena on, with confidence but also plenty of nerves. Facing Galena presented a new challenge and the Manogue players knew they would have to stay focused and communicate throughout the game.
The nerves were noticeable early, but Manogue quickly turned that nervous energy into effort. The team created its first major opportunity after a well placed through ball that split the Galena defense. Manogue took advantage of the opening and scored first, giving the team an early lead.
Galena responded by increasing its pressure and eventually found the back of the net to tie the game. Later in the first half, Galena scored again, putting Manogue behind 2-1. Instead of losing momentum, Manogue continued to fight and looked for another opportunity before halftime.
That opportunity came from a corner kick. Manogue delivered the ball into the box, and the team tapped it into the goal, tying the game at 2-2 just before halftime.
The second half became a battle for possession. Manogue showed strong ball movement, passing effectively and working to maintain control of the game. Both teams continued to create chances, but neither was able to score the deciding goal. Manogue’s players continued to fight through the final minutes, refusing to give up as the rivalry matchup came down to the final whistle.
Assistant coach Dan To head coach Peter said the team’s performance stood out, saying, “This is the best level of playing I have seen in a while.”
The 2-2 tie gives Manogue another strong performance to build on after its win over Reed. The JV team will now turn its attention to its next challenge against Damonte Ranch on Tuesday, September 29, at Damonte Ranch, where Manogue will look to carry its momentum into the next game.
