Rumors are beginning to stir about a possible change to Miner software after increasing problems with the current application ‘Blackboard.’ At the start of the 2025 school year, Bishop Manogue administration transferred student data from the previous software Blackbaud. Though the names are similar, the applications could not be more different. The student body preferred Blackbaud for its assignment center and easily accessible grades, and teachers have attested that the old software was more easily maneuverable when compared to Blackboard.

So why did Manogue switch in the first place? Well, that information was never confirmed. However, it was speculated that Blackbaud wanted to upcharge the school significantly and threatened to delete student data if requests were not met. The switch to Blackboard was met with a lot of pushback from students who found it difficult to keep track of their tasks and preferred the old assignment center. While freshmen and sophomores have never known anything else, upperclassmen felt strongly about the change.
Senior Emma Twisselmann stated “I liked Blackbaud better because it was easier to digitally turn things in.” The previous application had direct Google Drive submission while Blackboard requires students to convert to PDFs. Luke Zarcone, [Senior], said, “Let’s just use google classroom, it’s much simpler.”

Whispers about a possible switch back are continuing to grow. Although most teachers have declined to comment, anonymous sources have stated in rather cryptic terms that Blackboard’s time at Manogue is coming to a close. This switch, if implemented, would reportedly take place starting next semester, and administration is in the process of transferring information back to Blackbaud.
It is unclear how the student body will react to this switch, but one thing is for sure, Blackboard is being sunsetted. Updates on this topic to come as the story develops.
