As September comes to a close, Bishop Manogue’s fall sports teams continue their seasons with recent victories, upcoming competitions, and opportunities to represent the Miners.
Football, volleyball, cross-country, soccer, and other fall sports are keeping student-athletes busy as teams prepare for the remainder of their schedules.
The varsity football team earned its first victory of the season on September 11, defeating Reno High School 31-23. After falling behind 10-0, the Miners came back to secure the win. Sophomore Joc Bailey contributed 78 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the victory.
Following a bye week, the Miners will return to action on September 25 when they host McQueen High School for their homecoming game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the school’s homecoming tailgate beginning at 4:30 pm.
The girls varsity volleyball team has also been active this fall. On September 15, the Miners defeated Galena High School 3-1. The team later competed in the Durango Fall Classic, where it faced several opponents from outside the Reno area.
Volleyball will continue its schedule with an away match against Damonte Ranch on September 24, followed by another away match against Galena on September 30.
Meanwhile, Bishop Manogue’s cross-country team has recorded several notable performances. At the Josh Ruff Invitational on September 19, the boys team finished second, with Grant Carman placing second individually in the varsity 5k with a time of 15 minutes and 57 seconds.
The girls team also recorded strong performances at the invitational, sweeping the top three places in the freshman/sophomore 3,400-meter race. Emmery Scolari finished first, followed by Evelyn Roodhouse and Emily Azzi.
The cross-country team is scheduled to compete again on September 26 at Ponderosa Golf Course in Truckee.
Girls’ varsity soccer currently holds an 8-2-1 record following a 2-1 loss to Galena High School on September 22. The Miners have recorded several victories this fall, including a 6-0 win over McQueen and an 8-0 victory against Hug. The team will look to bounce back from its recent defeat as it continues its league schedule, with a matchup against Damonte Ranch scheduled for September 29.
Meanwhile, the boys soccer team has faced a challenging start to its season. After losses to McQueen, Hug, Sparks, Spanish Springs, Carson, and Reno, the Miners have continued competing against Northern Nevada opponents. The team is scheduled to face Galena on September 26 before traveling to Damonte Ranch on September 30.
As the fall season continues, Bishop Manogue’s athletic teams will look to build on their performances as they prepare for upcoming competitions. With several weeks of competition remaining, the Miners will continue working toward their goals as they approach the postseason.
