The Manogue varsity girls soccer team kicked off its playoff journey in dominant fashion on Monday with a 6-0 win over Spanish Springs on its home turf. The
Miners controlled the game from start to finish, showcasing incredible energy, skill, and teamwork on both offense and defense.
From the beginning the energy was electric. The Manogue players brought intensity and focus to the field while their teammates on the bench cheered them on. Sidelined with a torn ACL, Caitlyn Quigley was their number one cheerleader, giving nonstop encouraging support. Fans also filled the stands, from friends to parents, creating an unforgettable home game atmosphere and giving the team a huge boost.
The Miners wasted no time getting on the scoreboard and maintained pressure throughout the game. Anna Melarkey kicked off the game by scoring the first goal of the game. From there she scored two more times leading her to get a hat trick. Way to go Anna. With strong passing, smart ball movement, and solid defense, Manogue found the back of the net six times while preventing Spanish Springs from scoring. Joley Luke was a key component of the team as she scored one goal and played strong defense keeping Spanish Springs from scoring. Eva Benna helped lead the team to victory as she scored two goals. The shutout victory secured the Miners’ place in the next round of playoffs.
The team’s energy and determination reflected the hard work and preparation that went into the postseason. Players supported one another both on and off the
field, while the crowd’s enthusiasm added to the excitement. Ella Bradley uplifted her teammates from the back line controlling the teams energy. The strong
sense of teamwork helped make the playoff opener a memorable night for the Manogue community.
Head Coach Amber captured the team’s confidence and determination with a powerful statement: “This is our field, our game, our time.” Her words reflected the Miners’ focus and the pride they brought to their home-field playoff victory.
With the first round behind them, the Manogue Miners now turn their attention to their next challenge. The team will face the Reno Huskies on Wednesday, October 28, at Reno High School. The Miners hope to carry their momentum, teamwork, and energy into the matchup and earn another win to advance further in the playoffs.
