Smoke Reaches Reno: Events in Jeopardy for Cancellation

Due to the Mosquito Fires in California, the air levels in reno are dangerously hazardous. This air quality can affect many September events in reno and local high school events as well. As of today, September 9th, 2022, all events are still on but are subject to change. The hot air balloon races and local sporting events are specifically in question for continuation.
Local high school students are preparing for the worst news about recent events. Keira Brady, a senior at Bishop Manogue, stated, “Usually when it’s over 100 in air quality you’re not supposed to be outside so they (football games and events) could be canceled.” When asked how Brady feels about the possible cancellations she said, “I just would hate to see us have to start canceling and postponing events again this year due to the smoke, especially with homecoming week coming up.”
The people of Reno still plan on holding events but with the air slowly declining from earlier this week, they are in close quarters with cancellation. Recalling last august when many schools were canceled for days and events were pushed back, this year might have the same fate.
