Bishop Manogue High School’s athletic program has once again showcased its dominance in Northern Nevada, solidifying its position as the best boys athletic program in the region. With a remarkable display of talent and determination, the Miners achieved several regional championships across various sports. The boys football, baseball, and basketball teams emerged victorious and there were also regional championships in girls basketball, girls golf, and boys tennis, including two first place state titles in boys slalom ski, girls cross country as the state runner up and Junior Varsity boys weightlifting taking first place. The wrestling arena also saw the victory of Whitney Heit, who was crowned the state champion in her weight class, showcasing her exceptional skill and dedication. Boys soccer also took the state championship and the coach, Marco Merlo, was awarded the Small School Coach of the Year Award.
Congratulations to the four students who signed national letters of intent to play at the collegiate level. Mayson Navarro’s commitment to Eastern Illinois University for Division I volleyball, Lola Hart’s signing with Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa for Division I volleyball, and Jacey and Jordan Wynn’s decision to join William Jewell University in Liberty, Missouri for Division II lacrosse are all significant milestones in their athletic careers.

With an extraordinary count of seven Northern 5A titles this year, Bishop Manogue capped off the 2022-2023 school year with a resounding sense of pride for their sports teams, winning the most regional 5A championships. The dedication and hard work of the athletes, coaches, directors, and families played an integral role in these achievements, and their unwavering support has undoubtedly contributed to the success of the Miners’ athletic program. As the school looks forward to the future, the message is clear: keep winning, Miners!
