This year Bishop Manogue started a new mentoring program called the Miner Sidekick program. Senior and Junior students were paired up with 2 or more freshmen “sidekicks”, to attend events, participate in dress-up days, and get acquainted with the Bishop Manogue community. The purpose of this program is to allow new students to better settle into life as a miner from someone who knows the ropes. Upperclassmen were tasked with not only attending events and school functions with their sidekicks but also getting to know a little about them and answering any questions that the freshmen may have throughout their transition into high school. They are paired together for the first 6 weeks of school, and the program so far has been a roaring success. Many freshmen report feeling more comfortable in the hallways and feel grateful to have someone to answer their questions from a student’s perspective. This program has so many benefits, and we all hope this will become a tradition for Bishop Manogue students in years to come.
