The Bishop Manogue Cross Country team competed in the Spanish Springs JV Cross Country Championships on October 17, 2023, at the Golden Eagle Sports Complex. They raced against other local high schools including Carson, Coral Academy, Damonete, Dayton, Douglas, Galena, McQueen, North Tahoe, North Valleys, Oasis, Quincy, Reed, Reno, Spanish Springs, Sparks, and Wooster high school.
The BMCHS Girls Junior Varsity team placed fourth out of fourteen teams. Summer Roleson led the team in third place followed by Lyla Wiese, Addison Cale, Avery Jakubos, Stella Beyon, Aibhílín Pezanoski, and Alejandra Herrera placing forty-ninth out of sixty-six runners in the women’s division. The BMCHS Boys Junior Varsity placed seventh out of thirteen teams. Jack O’Donnell and Jack Gronek lead the team with a tie for twenty-fourth place followed by Quincy McBride, Kyle Perlich, and Elijah Burkett bring up the rear with eighty-third place out of 123 runners in the men’s division.
The course was three miles long consisting of three separate one mile loops. The first mile was a paved asphalt path and the second was on a dirt road. For the last mile, the runners had to run on thick grass. Stella Beyon commented, “I felt really great for the first two miles, but when I got to the grass, I was dying!” Addison Cale also said, “It was much more difficult to run on the grass. I felt like I was pulling myself against some force that was dragging me down!”
The Bishop Manogue Cross Country team finished their season beautifully with the Spanish Springs JV Cross Country Championships and can’t wait for next year!
