School spirit has come to Manogue this Homecoming Week, with many students participating in dress-up days and showing inter-grade spirit through hallway decorations.
This year’s Homecoming theme, “Alice in Wonderland,” has been deemed very popular among students, with hallways featuring popular references from the movie. In addition, the themes of the days this week have been closely connected with the movie, and most students have been partaking in dressing up to show school spirit. The hallway decorations and the outfits throughout the week have created an excited atmosphere leading up to the Homecoming game and dance this weekend.
The upperclassmen hallway decorations this year have been one of the most spirited parts of Homecoming Week. Many students showed up to help with decorating the hallways to match the themes for the week. Mr. Deruyter, the ASB teacher, said, “I love walking through the [juniors] hallway.” The hallways have incorporated the “Alice in Wonderland” theme further into the week than many years before, reminding students of the reason behind the week of fun.
Along with the decorations, student participation in dress up days has been fantastic. The themes have given students the opportunity to come together, laugh, and have fun throughout the week. Many students have said that their favorite dress up day was “Mad Hatter’s Tea Party,” where many students, boys and girls, were seen dressing out in sparkly tiaras, fuzzy tutus, and formal ties.
This weekend, students can look forward to the homecoming game Friday night, with tailgating starting at 4:30 and kickoff at 7:00pm. The dance will follow Saturday night at 7pm to 9pm. Students have already shown their participation leading up to this weekend, so the dance will serve as another opportunity for students to come together and show some spirit!
