Bishop Manogue students had the opportunity to show their Halloween spirit last week for Sodality’s Halloween Dress-up Day last week. While this was a fun time to celebrate the holiday for students, Sodality also used the opportunity to raise money for their future plans, and kick off donations to their can drive this month.
The costume dress-up day leading up to Halloween is an annual Manogue tradition that many students look forward to during the first quarter, and is usually hosted by Sodality, or another Manogue service club. To dress up last Thursday, students had to bring $5 or 5 cans of food, and in the end students raised $895, which will go to Sodality’s Christmas party, Angel Tree, and other events throughout the year. In addition, around 100 cans were donated, which will be put towards the November Canned food drive. Approximately 200 students participated in the fundraiser, showing strong support for Sodality and its upcoming activities.
The popularity of the occasion was noticed throughout the school. Juniors Rose Wiese and Kendall York were quoted saying that the “bed-bug costumes were the most popular” among the students. Many teachers were also seen in matching onesies, and minion costumes seemed to be a trend among both teachers and students.
With the success of the costume dress-up day, Sodality hopes that students will continue to participate in the November canned food drive during the 1st-12th, when 1st period classes will be competing for who can collect the most cans. The winning class will be rewarded with a doughnut party, with all the proceeds going to Helping Hands ministry at Little Flower.
