The souls of the faithfully departed were celebrated here at Manogue through community and prayer. On November 2, All Souls Day also known as Día de los Muertos was celebrated by placing an altar outside of the Chapel here at Manogue. Students were encouraged to bring a photo of a family member or friend who had passed away and place it on the altar.
Día de los Muertos is a Mexican celebration where families celebrate the Dead in a joyful way instead of the typical mourning nature. All Souls Day and Día de los Muertos share the same date and are very similar but are not exactly the same. All Souls day is celebrated among the Catholic church and focuses more about praying for the faithfully departed.
All Souls Day was a great way to spread our faith throughout the Manogue Community.
The tradition allowed students to remember those who have passed as well as come together as a community.
Ms. Hoy said, “This is a beautiful opportunity for our students to remember those they love, celebrate the impact they have had on their lives, and unite in prayer for the souls of the faithful departed.”
Religion Classes were encouraged to stop by and pray over the families. Many classes came out and stopped by to pay their respects. As well as dropping off a photo if they wanted to participate.
The altar was a great way for students to participate in Manogue’s faith. Whether you are Catholic or not, all students were encouraged to participate. There was also a great turn out in pictures turned in, as well as students stopping to pause.
This tradition directly reflects what it means to be a student here at Manogue. Having faith, supporting our community, and remembering those who have come before us. Manogue will continue to carry out this tradition for years to come.
