In and around Reno, numerous festive events and fun-filled activities launch the Christmas season into action. To find an activity that will energize your holiday spirit, check out these seasonable prospects:

City of Reno Tree Lighting (December 6)

The City of Reno will be having the annual tree lighting ceremony Wednesday, December 6, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the City Plaza. Reno dignitaries will light the tree, followed by a ceremony for twenty   inductees into the Reno People Project, an organization that recognizes people who have made a positive impact on the city of Reno.  Open ice skating at the Greater Nevada Field will round out the evening’s festivities. This is a free event and a great way to get into the holiday spirit!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Share Your Christmas Food Drive (December 8)
A food drive sponsored by KTVN news station will be collecting donations from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, December 8, at the following locations: Grand Sierra Resort, the Governor’s Mansion and Carson Valley Inn. Every year, this service project benefits many local people in need. Please donate and spread some holiday cheer to those less fortunate!

 

 

Polar Express (November 18 to December 30)

This family-friendly activity offers train rides to the North Pole! The trains depart from Eastgate Depot near Carson City via the Virginia and Truckee Railroad.   Be sure to get tickets in advance as the train always sells out! 

 

 

 

Christmas on the Comstock (Month of December) 

Multiple events take place in Virginia City to celebrate the holidays. The Parade of Lights takes place on December 2 at 5 p.m. In addition, the V&T Candy Cane Express offers vintage coach rides along the historic Virginia and Truckee route to Gold Hill on December 2, 3, 9, and 10.  If the theater sounds appealing, do not miss “A Nightmare Before Christmas” performance at the Opera House on December 9, 10, 15, 16, and 17. Nutcracker Ballet (December 8-10)

The Nutcracker is a beautiful ballet that is a classic holiday tradition for many. There are multiple performances that are taking place around Reno. Jane Zebrack, a junior at Manogue, will be dancing Clara at the Pioneer Center! For more information on Jane click here. To get tickets for this amazing performance click here. Performances will take place on Friday, December 8 at 8 p.m., Saturday December 9 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday, December 10 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

 

 

 

Snowglobe Music Festival (December 29-31)

The Snowglobe Music festival takes place in South Lake Tahoe each year. Artists performing include Zedd, Dillon Francis, and Khalid. The festival is the perfect mashup of winter activities such as snowboarding and skiing and live music. To purchase tickets or a wristband click here.
