Nola Jaffe is a Junior at Bishop Manogue High School, who has a deep love for music and creates melodies that she hopes can connect with others as much as music connects with her. Nola was born in Reno, Nevada. At a young age, Nola and her family decided to move to Arizona. She had a typical childhood, filled with so much love, care, compassion, and fun. Nola grew up with both parents in her life, loving her unconditionally and guiding her through the hardships she endured growing up. Eventually, she and her family decided that Arizona was not the place for them. They packed up their life and moved back to Reno, where Nola has grown up since. She attended Roy Gamm Elementary School, then Swope Middle School, and moved on up to Bishop Manogue High School, where she has a year-and-a-half left to make the most memories she can. She enjoys going to BMCHS and has loved the connections she made throughout her two-and-a-half years being a Manogue Miner.
Nola was brought up to believe in certain values, taught by her parents and family. Her family makes sure that they stick to these values, and she believes that molded her into the person she has become today. Her parents made sure that Nola grew up to be a kind, creative, and successful girl. Her father, Adam Jaffe, also has a passion and feel for music, which has influenced Nola’s interests and pursuits as she grew up. Her day-to-day life is pretty average, but she always likes to keep herself busy. Nola attends classes at Manogue like any other student should. After school, she prefers to practice guitar or piano, do her homework, and then head to bed. She also loves to volunteer as a lacrosse coach for extracurricular activities as well as earning service hours. Nola grew up playing lacrosse too, and she became very good at it as well. However, Nola believes that putting her energy into her schooling as well as bettering her musical skills will better her and her future more than anything. So, she continues her interest in lacrosse by teaching others the skills she has learned throughout her years and using her strengths to help and guide others on their journey through life.
One thing that Nola believes people do not truly know about her is that she is extremely inspired by music, and any type of music as well. Nola plays many instruments including the drums, piano, and guitar, even electric guitar! She finds comfort in the rhythm and harmony she can create with simply just her hands. To other people who may not know her personally, Nola seems like your typical high school girl, but once you get to know her you find out she truly is a talented student, musician, and friend. Although she likes to keep herself busy, in her free time she loves to do countless things. Nola is a social butterfly, who loves interacting with her peers. She loves to hang out with her closest friends and go to social events, and she also loves to go shopping. Nola believes that branching out and meeting new people is crucial in your high school years, making bonds that you can remember forever. She is definitely an extrovert and can spark up a conversation with anybody.
Nola doesn’t have strong opinions regarding politics or religion and normally stays quiet about her own opinions, but she is extremely opinionated about music and everything behind it. She has grown up listening, learning, and practicing multiple forms of music in her life, and has acquired a secure interest and connection with it. Nola claims that she can go on and on about everything related to music, even music theory which she has been learning in her piano class as well as guitar practice. Nola believes that it is very important to have music in your life, no matter what form or genre you prefer. People can connect with music in so many different ways, music can speak to each and every individual person, giving us something to relate to and confide in. Music is a form of emotional expression, it can bring up old memories and feelings of nostalgia, and music can bring people together, even in times of hardship and loss. Overall, Nola has confidence in the fact that music can be a universal language that has the power to touch and enhance our lives in many ways, this be including emotional, cultural, social, and even psychological levels.
