Six students from Bishop Manogue Catholic High School have been selected to be part of the high school division Honors Choir in Nevada. Out of one hundred auditionees, Elizabeth Boulware, Aibhilin Pezanoski, Sophia Rauenhorst, Samantha Whitten, Olivia Baker, and Rayne Lee were chosen to sing with the Honor Choir in the voice parts of soprano or alto.
Honor Choir rehearses and performs a significant collection of high-caliber choral literature from a wide variety of musical genres and periods. Singers were selected based upon assessments of vocal independence, harmonization abilities, and interval accuracy. The audition results were released on September 22, 2023, and the pre rehearsal will be held on January 29, 2024.
During pre-rehearsal, students will meet together and sing what they’ve been working on collectively. The director will go over the voice parts within the pieces, bass, tenor, alto, and soprano, and will comment on performance critiques and dynamic markings.
Last year, the high school division performed six songs. This year, the choral director has picked a total of ten songs for the choir to sing including I See Colors, Gloria, Come Joyfully Sing, Chanté Wasté Hoksíla, Lift Every Voice and Sing, Take Me to the Water, By Night, Tshela Moya, Where the Light Begins, and Life Has Loveliness to Sell. As the choir teacher here at BMCHS, Mrs. Hilliard said, “This program is the best I’ve seen for Honor Choir since I’ve been teaching in Nevada.”
With January 29th right around the corner, these six students from Bishop Manogue have been practicing diligently to master the ten songs provided by the choral director in time for the pre-rehearsal. These talented young women are so excited to represent BMCHS in the music department again this year.
