Every year, the Theater Class puts on a play as their spring final, giving students the chance to show off everything they have learned throughout the year. This year, the class is bringing the classic mystery comedy Clue to the stage. Based on the famous board game that has entertained families for generations, Clue combines mystery, comedy, and drama into one fun-filled performance. With suspicious characters, unexpected twists, and nonstop laughs, the play offers the perfect challenge for both new and experienced theater students.
The story follows a group of strangers invited to a mysterious dinner party, only for the night to quickly change into chaos when a murder is discovered. Like the board game, the audience is left to follow the characters as they try to solve who committed the crime, where it happened, and what weapon was used. While the play is full of humor and exaggerated moments, it also requires strong acting skills, good timing, and teamwork from both new and experienced students.
One thing that makes this year’s production special is that it’s being led by a student director. Junior Abbie, a three-year theater student and longtime performing arts lover, stepped into the role this year to help guide the cast through rehearsals and production. Taking on the responsibility of directing a full-length play is a new challenge for her, but Abbie has embraced the challenge with excitement and creativity.
“Clue is fun. We’ve never done Clue, but we do murder mysteries every year, so apparently we just like murder mysteries,” Abbie said “But they are good to learn with though, and they’re a fun little challenge.”
As Abbie noted, plays like this have become a tradition for the theater program. In past years, students have performed murder mysteries such as And Then There Were None and last year’s Tough City, Prone to Rain. These shows always bring a mix of suspense and humor while giving students valuable acting experience. For many students, the spring play is also a chance to get involved, especially if they’re not a part of the Spring Musical. Speaking from experience, the theater program is always full of fun and gives students the opportunity to challenge themselves in new ways. Memorizing lines, developing charaacters, and performing in front of an audience can seem really intimidating, but having this experience really turns it into something fun and useful. Students gain confidence, teamwork, and public speaking skills, putting into practice everything they have learned that year.
The students have spent weeks preparing the performance, from rehearsing scenes to organizing costumes and props, all to bring the mystery to life. Their hard work and dedication are going to make this year’s play one to remember. Everyone is invited to come support the Theater Class and enjoy an hour of mystery and comedy. The performance will take place in Mrs. Hilliard’s Room (Room F104) on Thursday, May 28th during Miner Block. Whether you are a longtime theater fan or just looking to support your friends, Clue promises to create laughs, surprises, and suspense. And as this year’s production comes to a close, audiences are excited to see what next year’s theater class will have in store.
