The Bishop Manogue Robotics Team, MinerBots, is starting up again this school year with more members than ever, and they are ready to create.

The overall goal of MinerBots is to create a robot that completes a variety of tasks in the most efficient manner possible. Doing this shows the students’ skills in planning, teamwork, and problem-solving. This requires that the robot fit the cost, weight, and size criteria that is set for the group. They also have many brainstorming sessions for them to come up with the best ideas they can.

Students that are interested in computer programming have an opportunity to show off their skills as well. After the robots are designed and built, they need to be programmed to perform specific actions. Some actions are autonomous, while others are controlled by a student driver.

There is a large number of new members joining this year. Signups are still available for any students who wish to join, and many students have decided to introduce themselves to the world of robotics. “We’re so excited for this year,” said Gabriel Ballesteros, sophomore, “especially for our next competition.”

The first major event that the MinerBots will participate in is BIOBUZZ™, an event in which teams compete in a series of games themed around the natural world. BIOBUZZ™ runs from September 12th to May 1st. The games usually involve launching a ball into a container as accurately as possible. Schools from many nearby areas all come together to join this competition.

The MinerBots are looking forward to this school year, and they are ready to show their skills not only to the competition, but also themselves.
