The Bishop Manogue football team defeated Reno High School in the Regional Semifinal match this past Friday, before a large home crowd. The game ended with a final score of 62-28.
The game commenced at 6:00pm on Friday night. Manogue put themselves in the lead with a touchdown at the eighth minute of the first quarter, which was quickly followed with a pick 6 by senior, Pele Masina. Another touchdown by Hukari paired with tight defense led to the first quarter ending with a score of 21-0, Manogue.
Reno made it on the board with an early touchdown to start the second quarter, but Manogue answered with another touchdown of their own. A 34-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brandon Mann to senior Dulin Hukari, put the Miners up 35-7 at half.
The second two quarters followed suit, with a running clock in play for much of the half. Manogue came away with four more touchdowns, winning with a sweeping 62 points to Reno’s 28. Senior linebacker Josh Zarcone remarked on their victory: “We were pretty confident going into the game but we knew that we still had a job to do, because they were able to upset Douglas. We knew if we came out and played our kind of football we would be fine, and we did just that.”
The Miner’s feel confident that this win will give them momentum going into their game against Reed next week. Marley Spuhler, junior linebacker and MaxPreps defensive player of the game, claimed, “We played with the mentality that nobody can hang with us and that’s true. We’re going in with the same mentality against Reed.” The Miners took home the state championship title last year, and they hope to go back to back this year.
Come and cheer on the Miners as they take on the Raiders this Friday, November 15, for the Regional Championship!
