What Happened?
There was a lot of action at State last weekend, with an unprecedented number of qualifiers the week before State at the 5A Northern Nevada Regionals. Our Lady Miners had three individual qualifiers across six open events, as well as three relay teams qualifying for State.
Individual Events
400 Meters
The first event was run by Freshman phenom Emmery Scolari. She had an outstanding cross-country season and followed it up with amazing performances in the 400 meters throughout her track season. The week before State, she got second at Regionals with a time of 1:00.23. She concluded her season with a sixth-place finish and a time of 59.48 at regionals.
1600 Meters & 3200 Meters
The 1600-meter race and the 3200-meter race were both run by Manogue’s outstanding senior Samantha Tolotti. Sam Tolotti is no stranger to the State Championship, having been there multiple times in previous years on relays. She ended her senior season with a 5:24.39 1600m and an 11:53.09 3200m while finishing 7th in both races. She will continue her cross-country and track career at the University of Nevada, Reno, next year.
100-Meter Hurdles, 300-Meter Hurdles, Pole Vault
Our last individual qualifier for the State Championship was Harper Westfall. Harper Westfall qualified in three events: the 100-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles, and the pole vault. The previous week at regionals, she had run a school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.38. At State, she ran a time of 16.14, finishing sixth at state. The next event she ran was the 300-meter hurdles. The previous week, she ran a personal best of 46.22, where she got first. At State, she ran a 47.41, where she finished fifth overall. Between her running events, she was also participating in the pole vault. At the end of the meet, she matched her personal best of twelve feet and six inches, which secured her second place overall.
Relays
4×100 Meter Relay
Our girls’ 4×100 meter relay consisted of four underclassmen: Freshman Melania Wilson, Sophomore Peyton Ricciardi, Sophomore Madison Allison, and Freshman Lucy Miller. These girls ran a time of 52.02 seconds, finishing eighth place overall.
4×400 Meter Relay
Our girls’ 4×400 meter relay consisted of one upperclassman and three underclassmen: Junior Harper Westfall, Sophomore Kya Flynn, Freshman Novella Avery, and Freshman Emmery Scolari. They ran a time of 4 minutes and seven seconds, finishing in 6th place overall.
4×800 Meter Relay
Our girls’ 4×800 meter relay consisted of one upperclassman and three underclassmen: Senior Samantha Tolotti, Sophomore Kya Flynn, Freshman Novella Avery, and Freshman Emmery Scolari. They ran a time of 9 minutes and 46 seconds, finishing 4th overall.
Looking Ahead…
Overall, this was an extremely strong performance by our girls’ team, especially in recent years. The best part about it is that the best is yet to come. As you can see in the article, Manogue’s girls’ team is extremely young. Most of the relays consisted primarily of underclassmen. Not to mention, out of the two upperclassmen, only one of them is a senior (Samantha Tolotti) and will be leaving next year. This team has a bright future, and next year has the opportunity to be something really special.
