Fortnite first launched July 21st, 2017. In the early years there were about 44.7 million players in one day, but since the launch of its new chapters the game has experienced lessened amounts of players. The decrease in players is due to the modifications Epic Games has made to the newest versions of Fortnite. Fortnite became a huge hit right around the pandemic which led to millions of people playing on the daily, but since then it hasn’t been as much of a hit.
Fortnite has been in the background since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic and just as of recently seemed to surface again. It is clear that Epic Games is trying to salvage more players and intrigue new ones by the “live events,” such as the Travis Scott and Eminem concerts, and “different gameplay,” but this approach hasn’t had the best outcome in the long run. Players are displeased with the change and loved when Epic Games brought back the “OG Map” which showed a major increase of players November through December.
With the increase of the “OG Map” Epic games should realize that what their players want is the nostalgic experience they had back during the pandemic and the comfort of movements, weapons, players, maps, buildings, they knew and loved that Epic Games had to offer back in 2017 through 2021.
