Volleyball Star/Student Body Vice President Sofia Jaferian and Signed College Football Player Nathan Simmons were officially crowned last Saturday, May 2, at Bishop Manogue’s Prom. held at the Whitney Peak Hotel.
This was no ordinary pairing – the two were actually nominated together, making their big moment even more meaningful and significant, as it reflected a shared recognition from their peers rather than an individual selection. Their joint nomination highlighted the strong presence they both have within the school community though their involvement in their sports, Miner Ministry, National Honors Society, and Student Council, as well as the respect they’ve earned throughout the year. In doing so, they also followed in the footsteps of last year’s crowned prom duo, Hope Crumley and Hank Kennedy, continuing a tradition of celebrating students who embody leadership, character, and school spirit at Bishop Manogue.
On Friday, May 1, Jaferian and Simmons performed an electrifying dance to “Shut Up and Drive” by Rihanna at Manogue’s annual prom rally, captivating an ecstatic student body. Their high-energy routine featured multiple flips, dips, and spins, showcasing their incredible skills, confidence, and charisma. Adding to the excitement, the duo fully embraced the theme by sporting coordinated red and black race car driver outfits, making their performance as visually striking as it was entertaining.
This year’s theme, “Real in Rio,” transformed the Prom venue with vibrant festive colors of blue, green, and purple, creating a lively and energetic atmosphere. During the highlight of the evening, the two shared a special dance to “Thinking Out Loud,” as fellow students gathered around them, cheering and capturing the moment, making it a truly unforgettable experience for everyone in attendance.

Both Jaferian and Simmons perfectly represent the true meaning behind the tradition of King and Queen – recognizing kind, hardworking, and outstanding individuals for their character while establishing them as role models for the rest of the school community. Their actions on the court/field, in the classroom, with their friends or with complete strangers set them apart as individuals who naturally inspire those around them and elevate the community they are part of. For underclassmen, their recognition serves as motivation to develop the same qualities: to work hard, stay compassionate, get involved, and treat others with respect in every setting. Jaferian and Simmons show that these traits are noticed and valued by their peers, and that they can ultimately lead to meaningful recognition within the school community.
This unforgettable moment for Jaferian and Simmons was one of the most memorable highlights of the Bishop Manogue experience – a defining celebration that perfectly captured the spirit of the entire school year. It served as a meaningful conclusion to the year, bringing together the student body in a shared moment of excitement, pride, and school unity. It highlighted that universal kindness, inclusivity, and the ability to uplift others are what truly define royalty, showing that true leaders are those who positively impact everyone around them.
